Level 3 Business - Aariya

Former School: Eden Park High School

What led you to choose this course and why did you decide to study at JRC?

I took GCSE Business and found it interesting. Initially, I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to pursue, but now I’m focused on working in IT as a stepping stone toward a future in AI. I chose to study at JRC because not only did this college have the course I wanted, but it was also the easiest for me to get to. I visited this college at an Open Event and found it very informative, so it was an easy decision for me straight away.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I really enjoy this course because I’m more of a hands-on learner. Practical work is much easier for me than taking exams. I also appreciate how my lessons are taught, as they are easy to understand and digest.

How are you finding the teaching/support?

Both Jahmar and Anila are great, they share a lot of valuable knowledge, which I find helpful. If I don’t know an answer, they’re always there to help or will follow up with more information, which I appreciate.

Have you had any work experience during this course?

Last year, I did work experience with Imperial Construction Services Group Ltd alongside my Dad, where I developed an interest in accounting and bookkeeping. This year, I hope to work with Unilever, one of the world’s largest consumer goods companies, to shadow a professional in marketing and learn more about their strategies.

Have you taken part in events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?

Our Business Level 3 class visited the Emirates Stadium and the Park Theatre in London, and it turned out to be much more interesting than I expected. Seeing the various aspects of a business was eye-opening. I noticed that even though the Park Theatre is a much smaller business than Emirates, it remains so successful, and this changed my perspective.

What are your future plans and would you recommend JRC to a future student?

I’m interested in starting an apprenticeship as an IT apprentice. I’ve already applied for a few roles and am now waiting to hear back, to work in marketing data. I would recommend John Ruskin College—it’s a great and easy place to get around. I prefer smaller colleges over larger ones because they feel safer and more like a community. I feel that this has a positive impact on my studies.
