Creative Digital Media Production Level 3 - Shikira
Former School(s): Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College
Our student Shikira decided to join a Creative Digital Media Production Level 3 course after completing a Graphic Design GCSE at her previous school. She chose the course as she has a keen interest in Media as well as the filming itself and processes behind the scenes.
Speaking of what drove her to apply for JRC, Shikira mentioned that her careers advisor at secondary school spoke to her in detail about the creative facilities at John Ruskin College. Shikira found that everything ticked the right boxes to get her on route to fulfil her dream, so she enrolled.
Technical aspects of the course are Shikira’s favourite, adding how she enjoys “learning how to use the cameras and the different techniques associated with them” as well as editing too. She has found the teachers to be supportive and likes that “all the departments get together to help each other and the media department with their projects.”
Shikira has also completed two work experience placements whilst on the course, the first creating promotional material for a charity and the second at a production company where she filmed and edited a film review. Shikira felt that these have helped her develop interpersonal skills and she enjoyed doing something so interactive and productive. She mentioned how this has impacted on her coursework too, adding that she grew in confidence with the camera and this shone through in her academic work.
Looking to what’s next for her, Shikira plans to do an Apprenticeship as either a Production Runner or a Junior Content Producer to enhance her skills further.
