Beauty Therapy Level 2 - Mehak
Former School(s): -
Mehak attended school in Pakistan and arrived in the UK for the first time when she was 16. She enrolled on the ESOL Entry Level 2 at John Ruskin College to help improve her English and boost her confidence. She then attended a functional skills class and after achieving distinctions in every unit, she decided to pursue her passion in hair and beauty by enrolling on Beauty Therapy Level 2.
“It was my dream to do hair and beauty”
Whilst on the course, Mehak enjoyed doing practicals the most which involved facials, make-up, eyebrow tinting and waxing. Her favourite practical was doing manicures and pedicures for clients as she could really see them relax throughout the process and notice the positive difference before and after treatments.
Mehak continued to express her love for the course, by commenting on the tutors:
“My tutor is really helpful with coursework, and she helps us work as a team. It’s preparing us for the world of work, as in salons you would work as a team.
Mehak has continued to gain experience by participating in giving beauty treatments to the general public, that book appointments with the Atrium salon each week. Mehak, visited a beauty spa in Wimbledon as part of a college trip, acting as a client for the day to gain a better understanding of the client experience. She also attended an exhibition at Excel Olympia where she learnt some useful selling techniques and how to encourage clients to buy products.
In the future, Mehak would like to progress on to the Body & Spa Therapy Level 3 course, gain work experience in the industry and open her own salon.
When asked to summarise her JRC experience, Mehak shared:
“I would recommend John Ruskin College to a family member because it has been a really positive experience for me. The college has shown me different options and has boosted my motivation and has encouraged me to reach my full potential.”
