Alumni Business Management Level 3

Alumni Business Management Level 3 - Akeeles

Former School(s): -

Akeeles was a student at Galileo Galilei school in Italy before moving to the UK and enrolling at John Ruskin College. After Croydon Council suggested coming to JRC, he started on the Level 1 Vocational Studies course. Excelling in his studies, Akeeles switched courses to Business Level 3 to feel more academically challenged.

Since finishing his studies, Akeeles has begun a LLB Law degree at the Bloomsbury Institute University, where he hopes to progress and become a Corporate Solicitor.

What led you to choosing this course?

I’ve been interested in starting my own business since a young age, inspired by my parents having their own food preparation and rental businesses in Mauritius.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

It’s always fun, never boring and I enjoy being with my classmates.  One of my favourite modules was Employment Law as I plan to be a lawyer in the future. I also enjoyed the Developing a Marketing Campaign topic.

How are you finding the teaching/support?

Very good and supportive.  They give good guidance and tips for exams to help you reach your full potential.

Have you done any work experience during this course?

The experience of working in hospitality alongside my studies really benefited my coursework. I’ve learned many skills such as communication, organisation, and keeping staff motivated e.g. when giving feedback always start with positives!

Have you taken part in events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?

For our Managing an Event module, we planned and promoted a Cultural Day where we brought food in from different countries for staff and students to try. We took taster trays around and sold food in small, refillable containers for £5.  The event went really well, and we made a profit.

What are your future plans? University/Apprenticeship? Career aspiration?

I will be starting my studies in a LLB Law degree at the Bloomsbury Institute University, where I hope to progress and become a Corporate Solicitor.

Would you recommend JRC to a future student. If so, why?

Yes – everyone’s friendly and welcoming, and it's a great place to start your career.
