Supporting Mental Health Week at JRC

Date: 13 May 2024

It is Mental Health Awareness Week; this year's theme is all about movement and moving more for mental health.

When life’s busy, it can be tricky finding time for wellbeing-boosting activities.  But finding moments for movement might be easier than you think. Why not use the time you spend waiting to move more? When you’re waiting for the kettle to boil; for your kids to come out of school; or for a bus to arrive. These moments will add up.

At John Ruskin College we are supporting our staff and students with some fantastic mindfulness activities and talks in different areas. Here is what we a running on Campus this year:

  • 13 May – Off Record will be having a stand from 12 – 1pm
  • 14 May – LSK Cake Sale, this will be behind reception. Staff and students will be able to vote which local mental health charity they would like the funds to go to.
  • 16 May – Legacy Youth Zone stand from 12 – 1pm and Basketball shoot-out charity fundraiser in the Sports Hall.

All week at JRC we will be running interactive activities in our immersive suite for students and staff.

Additionally, the Salons will be offering treatments, these must be booked in advance:

  • 14 May from 4 – 5pm
  • 15 May from 1:30 – 2:30pm

We want our students to join in and encourage them to find some time to move in whatever way they can this week.

Mental Health Week is also a time to speak and check in with your friends and family. We all face mental health challenges, and just a simple "How are you?" may be all that is needed.
