John Ruskin College honours Remembrance Day
Date: 11 November 2024
At John Ruskin College today, students and staff came together to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives during the World Wars and to honour those who have served in any war or conflict.
Preparation for the ceremony involved students from all curriculum areas including Creative Arts, ESOL, Construction, Hair & Beauty and SEND, creating symbolic poppy wreaths. Creative Art student, Che, also created a powerful artwork in tribute to those who have served.

The Remembrance Day ceremony took place in the Sports Hall, beginning with Assistant Principal, David Rabjohns, introducing the event and its significance. This was followed by the ceremonial laying of wreaths by student reps.
At 11:00, everyone present held a two-minute silence, honouring the memory of the fallen while observing the sound of The Last Post.
Following the silence, Student Governor and Art, Design and Media student Mickey recited the war-time poem In Flanders Fields, which symbolises the sacrifices made by those who served.
In addition to the ceremony, a Remembrance Day display in the LRC offered books and resources related to the First and Second World Wars, giving students a chance to explore and reflect on the history and impact of these conflicts.
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of respect, reflection and remembrance.
