National Apprenticeship Week 2023 - #ApprenticeWednesday
Date: 08 February 2023
We are halfway through National Apprenticeship Week! We all know how amazing apprenticeships can be, but we want you to hear it from our own apprentices – Meet Katie!
Hairdressing Level 2 apprentice, Katie
1. Who is your apprenticeship with and for how long?
Quite a few friends and family members recommended a hairdressing parlor that was looking for an apprentice role and I applied. I started my two year long apprenticeship journey with Jones - The Hairdresser in April 2022.
2. Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
After completing year 11, I started a Beauty Therapy Level 1 course at another college and realised Hair was my real passion. With an apprenticeship I am able to get the best of both worlds, I’m able to learn techniques at college and then able to develop my skills at work through practical work.
3. What are you enjoying most about your apprenticeship?
I've enjoyed witnessing my confidence improve whilst working in the salon, I've become more confident when speaking with clients and also in my work. I'm also able to bring in a model each Thursday where I am able to complete a look that focuses on the current skills I'm learning.
4. Why would you recommend an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship was the best route for me, I am getting paid whilst gaining a recognisable qualification and plus I have the opportunity to get my name out in the industry.
Could the apprenticeship route be for you? Find out more here.
