National Apprenticeship Week is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our Apprenticeships, engage with a range of local and national employers, and learn a little more about the Apprenticeship offer at Orbital South Colleges.

Tuesday 8 February 

Tutor Andy Hodgkinson gave an in depth talk on some of the best Apprenticeships our Level 1 Construction students can uptake

Our first Apprenticeship event of the week was in Construction, where Tutor Andy Hodgkinson gave an in-depth talk on some of the best Apprenticeships our Level 1 Construction students can uptake.

With Apprentices gaining on-the-job experience as well as being paid, our students' interests peaked. From Kitchen fitting to plumbing, Andy advised a good Construction Apprenticeship will include a wide range of different jobs so your skill-set is increased.

Wednesday 9 February  
Painting & Decorating students at John Ruskin College

Course tutor Justine Chart spoke about the variety of skills you acquire on the Property Maintenance Apprenticeship including tiling, building and painting & decorating Our students were confident their employer will keep them on after the Apprenticeship because of their newly learned skill-set.

Thursday 10 February  

Tutor Andy Hodgkinson spoke to our Level 1 and 2 Carpentry students who are very keen to do an Apprenticeship this September.

Jake said, "I have done a year of construction and carpentry, which has given me skills and confidence to move onto an Apprenticeship." 

Andy also advised, "An Apprenticeship is a gateway to employment and you're being taught by industry experts."

Friday 11 February  
Tutor Justine Chart explained the Apprenticeship offers to students

Our final Apprenticeship event of the week was in Painting and Decorating. Tutor Justine Chart explained the Apprenticeship offers students excellent facilities to learn important technical procedures such as repairing woodwork, lining paper and preparing and using filler.

Jack said, "The facilities are great with plenty of space to work on your own project. I have learned new things at college which I apply at work."

Beverly commented, "I want to understand the theory side properly and to be a certified painter and decorator. This status will give me much better chances of being employed"
