HE Progression Taster Event at ESC
Date: 21 November 2024
Yesterday, students studying their second year of their Level 3 course, were invited to attend East Surrey College's HE Progression Taster Event.
The event helped showcase the different educational avenues available and how Higher Education can support students in their careers after finishing College.
On the morning of the event, students were welcomed into our Auditorium to have a short talk from Seidu Salifu, HE – Group Quality and Development Lead. This talk gave students an overview about Higher Education, why people choose HE, the various levels that are offered and, introducing them to the opportunities available at our University Centre.
This was followed with a talk from Ian Edmunds, Group Director of Apprenticeships, explaining the benefits of apprenticeships, the different levels that are offered nationally and about current vacancies in Higher & Degree Apprenticeships.
Once the talks concluded, students broke off into small groups within specific course areas to learn more about the available options. Taster sessions included Make-Up, Special Effects & Hair for Media and Performance, Foundation Art & Design, Engineering, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security & Web Technologies.
Reflecting on the overall event, Seidu Salifu commented: “Our focus has been about supporting and inspiring our students to think about their options and next steps once completing College. The event was a huge success with students asking questions and being engaged with the available taster sessions. Also, a big thank you to the tutors who facilitated the taster sessions.”
