There are 8 units throughout the academic year:

  1. Unit 1: Engineering word
  2. Unit 2: Investigating an engineering product
  3. Unit 3: Health and Safety in Engineering
  4. Unit 4: Engineering maintenance
  5. Unit 5: Engineering materials
  6. Unit 9: Interpreting and using engineering information
  7. Unit 10: Mathematics for engineering
  8. Unit 12: Engineering design

In a recent lesson, Level 2 students were learning about manufacturing processes and equipment. The students were given images of various manufacturing processes and they had to write down the name of the manufacturing process based on the image shown and the brief explanation given to them. Each question had a £10, £20 and £50 value depending on the complexity and difficulty of the questions. The next activity was a mission impossible challenge where the students had to work in teams to extract information around the classroom on the advantages and disadvantages of 3 different manufacturing methods.

Amir Zakerizadeh, Engineering lecturer comments:

“The Level 2 students really enjoyed the idea of winning money (even if it’s laminated sheets of paper) and at the same time they learned various manufacturing methods."
