Celebrating diversity at ESC and JRC during ‘Proud 2 Be Me’ Week
Date: 08 March 2024
Here at Orbital South Colleges, we have been celebrating diversity, equality and inclusion amongst students and staff throughout ‘Proud 2 Be Me’ week across our campuses. As part of this week, we have been hosting some informative educational events, fantastic entertainment, and diverse cultural cuisines each day in the canteen, dedicated to everyone in our College community.
The week kicked off with the ‘Proud 2 be me’ Music show with MC & Producer Ghanaian born Nana Deborah, who is an ex-student starting to make a name for himself in the music industry. Nana performed a set of original tracks taking influences from Afro Beat, R&B, Hip-Hop, his life story and Ghanaian roots with the support of other College Music students.
Tuesday saw the hair and beauty department offering some fantastic services including manicures, as well as plaits and twists/basic styling. Plus, there were some educational and informative sessions around British Sign Language and Understanding Autism.
Wednesday’s focused sessions were centred around Deaf Awareness Training and the students were able to take part in a fantastic Dungeons & Dragons game event in the ESC Winter Garden.
The week concluded with Living with Anxiety & Managing your Mental Health training for staff on Thursday and Friday and another fantastic music show from MC & Producer Nana Deborah on Thursday afternoon.
Throughout the week, we also had staff and students wearing national dress to College, which has been amazing to see.
Overall, the ‘Proud 2 Be Me’ week was a fantastic collaborative discussion to create inclusive environments where every student can thrive.
