CV & Mock Interview Workshop with Croydon Commitment
Date: 01 February 2023
The charity organisation Croydon Commitment kindly visited our Art & Design Level 3 students and provided an engaging workshop around writing and submitting CVs, building confidence and the interview process.
Croydon Commitment organises volunteers from their specialist business areas to come and talk to students, inspiring them to apply for apprenticeships and jobs, and consider new careers.
The representatives who spoke to students on the day came from a wide variety of industries including the London Fire Brigade, the Royal Army and Croydon Councillor, Patsy Cummings.
The interactive workshop started with a general discussion and overview of CV’s including the do’s and don’ts, the purpose, importance, and the history. Later students were able to draft their own CVs in partnership with our guest speakers and could express their key skills and experience related to the industry their interested in.
Students also participated in mock interview sessions in which they learned how to prepare for an interview and understood the necessary requirements to make a good impression and stand out from others. Based on each answer, students were given constructive feedback on how they could improve their delivery.
Art & Design Level 3 student Nathan commented: “Today I learnt the importance of volunteering and how it can help me showcase my own experiences on my CV. It really is an asset for displaying your transferrable skills if you don’t have any work experience.”
Art & Design Level 3 student Ana added: “I really enjoyed looking at the difference between a good and a bad CV and the reasons why. I now have a better understanding of what is required and feel more confident with the process.”
