Armistice Day 2020
Date: 12 November 2020
Yesterday at John Ruskin College, we held a service in honour of Armistice Day to remember those who had fallen in war. Our staff and students met outside at a distance for a 2-minute silence and to observe the sounding of The Last Post. We also heard from our Principal, Kevin Standish, who made a speech about the significance of the day, recognising previous wars as well as those still taking place and the significance of this to the College.
As part of the ceremony, wreaths made by students of many different subjects were laid out by staff next to our flag mast. The wreaths were a wonderful addition to the service and showed the creativity of our students, with groups of students from Engineering, ESOL, Health & Social Care and many more subject areas taking part.
Our Armistice ceremony closed with a reading of the famous war-time poem ‘In Flanders Fields’, recited by our Head of School Liaison.
Thank you to all staff and students for taking a moment to remember and to all students who took part in the wreath making to commemorate the day.
