Applied Science Students Investigate a Mock Crime Scene
Date: 03 March 2022
As part of their practical Applied Science course, our Level 3 students took part in a mock crime scene exercise at the College!
For their Forensic Evidence, Collection and Analysis unit, the investigation covered a break-in at a pharmaceutical laboratory, with the suspect hunting for a recreational drug.
The students acted as Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCOs), processing the site and collecting evidence, which consisted of blood, fingerprints, hair and note samples. This will be analysed against records from suspects, which, alongside chemical analysis of the drugs, will help them to find out who is responsible.
Thank you to the tutors and Science Technician, Paul, who set up the scenario and planned out which areas of Forensics would be covered. This exercise is a great opportunity for students to experience work in the field and put their knowledge to the test.
The Applied Science Level 3 course consists of units covering a different field of general science, with specific Biology, Chemistry and Physics content applicable to that field. Find out more about our Applied Science courses here and apply to join us in Croydon this September.
