MET Dog Support Unit (DSU) visit JRC
Date: 04 September 2024
It was an exciting first week for our students studying our NEW Animal Management Level 1 course, as they recently had a friendly visitor from the MET Police Dog Unit for an exclusive demonstration.
Students got to witness a standard routine by Bridget, MET Dog Handler and dogs, Frank and Freya as they showcased incredible skills such as tracking suspects to sniffing out hidden contraband. These dogs are typically trained for a 12-month period or longer, and once certified receive roughly 2 hours of in-service training per 10 hour shift.
Georgie, an Animal Management Level 1 student commented on the experience, “I loved learning about the training processes and watching the police dogs complete their tasks.”
Tilly added, “I really enjoyed meeting Freya, I love how well trained she was, but also able to play and cuddle. I would definitely love to try this one day!”
There’s still time to enrol!
If you’d like to work in the animal care industry, there’s still time to join our Animal Management Level 1 course where you’ll learn the essential skills.
